So far, Americans are killing more Americans than foreign terrorists have. We kill 16,000 of us annually. That number includes home-grown, lone-wolf terrorists that Homeland Security warned about in a report that drove the wingnuts nuttier. Then one of them shot up the Holocaust Museum and killed a guard.
Has Rush Limbaugh jumped the shark? Last week, he tried to make the case that the Holocaust killer was a leftist. A leftist! Then he blamed rising health costs on injuries that happen when people exercise.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Get used to it. She has the approval of former President George HW Bush, his daughter-in-law and former First Lady Laura Bush, and GOP Sen. Mel Martinez. To name a few Republicans, and, the Democrats love her.
What to do about Guantanamo? Reminds me of the old saw about the scientist who invented the world’s strongest acid. He said it would eat through everything. “Where you gonna keep it?” asked his assistant.
The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. We keep 2.3 million men and women in storage containers. That’s enough people behind bars to rank as the fourth largest city in America, between Chicago and Houston. Some say guards are prisoners as well, serving life sentences eight hours at a time.

Can the President appoint a different Chief Justice before the other one retires? I didn't think they could do that for some reason.

Your comment about prisons points a real problem we have.
I have been in the justice business for 45 years, and I can tell you that what we are doing is not working.
I can also tell you that I do not know of an alternative.
One thing we could do is not imprison people for the so-called "victimless" crimes. That would get a lot of people out of prison, but something else would have to be done with a lot of them, at great cost.
It is a real problem that would require a bi-partisan approach to cure. Not likely.
I liked Mongo. I guess they can't show Blazing Saddles any more.
I agree with you SP. It's not working as-is, and victimless crime prosecutions are a major culprit.
You are also right about Blazing Saddles. Man, that's one great movie.
It's going to be very hard to stomach Sotomayor. She has made some comments and decisions that won't set with the constitutional believing citizen.

Sotomayer will not change the Court that much.
I am not familiar with her views, and have not researched her, because I know she will be confirmed.
The big fight on the Court would come with a replacement of Justice Kennedy or one of the four conservatives.
That would have the potential of drastically altering the Court.
